Don’t be intimidated by the name of the trail! In the past, it was traveled by people, pack animals, and funeral processions that took hours to reach their destination: the cemetery of the Church of Merufe. The section of the trail between the Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Passos and the center of the village of Arado, always alongside the Sucrasto stream, is simply wonderful. The path is lined with oak trees, flanked by stone walls where moss replaces the bare stones.
It’s a dynamic landscape, an interesting mosaic of scenes. It reflects various environmental factors and the harmony between human activities and nature over the generations. The second part of the route takes us into a mountainous area, through a forest of cedars (Chamaecyparis) and Scots pines, offering spectacular views over the Serra da Peneda. The second part of the trail rewards us with magnificent views of the terraces of Sistelo. Come along!…
