The most rugged part of Iberia, represented here by the northeastern region of Trás-os-Montes and particularly by the Montesinho Natural Park, extends further north through the Sierra de La Culebra and Sierra de La Cabrera, where the Lago de Sanabria Natural Park is located.

Situated in the northwest of Zamora, north of Bragança, and nestled in the Tera River valley, Lago de Sanabria is the largest glacial lake on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the largest in Europe. Surrounded by dense deciduous forests, the picturesque town of Puebla de Sanabria experiences the distinctive pulse of the seasons.

Spring arrives with a magnificent splendor that appeals to the senses and offers a multitude of aromas throughout the park. In autumn, the slopes are covered with a dazzling array of ochre yellow, red, and brown hues. However, it is the harshness of winter and the arrival of snow that give this region a magical touch and an enchanting beauty that rivals the snow-covered forests of the Great North American.

It is this magical landscape that I propose you discover on a walk along snow-covered paths lined with oak forests that stubbornly remain standing. In this land of legends, with some luck, we might spot one of the “duendes” that inhabit it: a fox, a wolf, a wild boar, a roe deer, a stag, or an otter.

Allow yourself to be enchanted by this magic and set out to explore this region, whose winter beauty will surely surprise you. Come along!…
