COUREL dos tesos cumes que ollan de lonxe!
Eiquí síntese ben o pouco que é un home…
Os Eidos, Uxío Novoneyra.
The Serra do Courel is a mountainous region located southeast of the province of Lugo. This area features two distinct aspects that contrast with other places: a landscape shaped by chestnut groves, cultivated fields, meadows, and wild nature. In the words of botanist Baltasar Merino, it is “free, rich, and exuberant.” The Serra do Courel, part of the Natura 2000 Network as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), has been declared a Special Protection Area for Natural Values, and the upper course of the Lor River is a Natural River Reserve. In the Serra do Courel, one can spot wolves, golden eagles, and rare plant species in the Galician Catalog of Endangered Species. There are over thirty priority habitats of community interest. Its vast and diverse forests find ancient chestnut groves, cork oaks, laurels, yews, beeches, hazels, birches, and rowans. Along the steep water areas are dense forests known as “devesas.” The most significant of these is the Devesa da Rogueira, a true paradise for nature lovers, which we can explore on a hike. The oldest rocks in the Iberian Peninsula support all this biological diversity, such as schists, quartzites, and limestone outcrops that offer a wide range of substrates. The highest peak in the Serra do Courel is Pico Formigueiros (1,639m). These lands, people, and culture are what VIDABOA invites you to discover during a time of year when the landscape becomes genuinely enchanting with the usual symphony of autumn colors. Come along!…
